While not widely recognized, introduction of Apple iPhone seems to have made a shockwave impression throughout cellphone industry and left major vendors scrambling to produce their own answer to it.
Only LG with their LG Prada KE850 phone has had something which was at least a little bit similar to iPhone. Other vendors had nothing to do but to churn out the concept phones on YouTube.
And here another concept phone – Asus Aura is presented, produced by Hungarian design company Egy Studio for Taiwanese vendor. It was certainly inspired by iPhone, although some interesting innovations concerning commonly mentioned shortcomings of Apple’s cellphone can be found in it.

One of them is a movable navigation module with navigation buttons, the other is a sliding QWERTY keyboard that should make text entry much easier.
Among other features of Asus Aura are –3,9″ touchscreen with which the whole surface of the phone is covered, 2 megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot, GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. All this is included in a 6mm thick package.
Unfortunately Asus Aura is only a concept so far and will stay that way probably a few years.
Having the dimensions of 97×49x6mm and total volume of 28 cc, Asus aura is many times smaller then what current HSDPA chipsets allow to be. But with Moore’s law and competition among chip makers of communication in full swing, who knows? We may see it sooner.
